USS Cobia Overnight – November 2015

Explore a World War II submarine – an icon of Wisconsin’s shipbuilding heritage!

This trip runs Nov 7-8, 2015.  We will meet at WSC at 2pm on the Saturday, and travel to Manitowoc, Wisconsin.

We will have dinner at the Pizza Ranch, experience an educational tour, and sleep overnight on the submarine.  In the morning, we will visit the maritime museum and head home.

Read about the submarine here.

The cost per person (scouts and adults) is $55, which covers dinner, the sub experience, and museum admission.

Class A shirts will be worn on the drive to & from the sub.  On the sub, there are close quarters and grease stains are a possibility so you may want to bring a change of clothes.

Sunday morning breakfast and souvenir shopping are ‘on your own’ so you may need appropriate pocket money.

Space is limited: sign-up is due by September 20.

Refer to email communication for sign-up form, or contact Todd Pistolis or Bill Glase for more details.

Mother-Son Campout

Hey Mom!  This is a great opportunity to see what your scout(s) have learned and experience what they do during a campout.

Please note: this is not a ‘drop-off’ campout – Scouts will ride with their parent to and from the campsite in Naperville.

Moms should plan to sleep in their own tent, but expect their Scout to set it up.  The boys will prepare dinner Saturday night, and a quick breakfast will be provided Sunday morning following pack-up.

Registration

Permission forms are online only.  Refer to the invitation sent via troop email.  Final submission date will be Monday August 31st .
Payment is due prior to departure. No shows will be charged accordingly…we will be buying food based on sign-ups.

To sign up for this BOR please email Marian Flattum no later than WEDNESDAY February 18th with the FOLLOWING INFORMATION:
1. Scout’s name
2. rank you are presenting for, and
3. date of your Scout Master / Assistant Scout Master conference.

1. ADULT VOLUNTEERS NEEDED:
If you are available, please let Marian know.
BSA Rules state that for each Board there must be a minimum of 3 registered BSA Adult Members that are not already a Scout Master or Assistant Scout Master. All Rank requirements must be completed before signing up for a BOR. If a Scout Master conference is still required, you must send me an email with the date you have scheduled with a SM or ASM for your conference, confirmed by the SM/ASM.

3. SCOUTS – UNIFORMS:
Scouts, if you are sitting for First Class or above, you must be in full uniform of shirt, neckerchief, and appropriate badges & emblems, including pants, socks, belt, and sash with merit badges attached. Please be sure that you have the proper rank badge attached to your uniform. If you are sitting for Tenderfoot, and Second Class, your uniform consists of BSA regulation shirt, neckerchief and slide, and appropriate badges and emblems. Welcome

Lord Robert Baden-Powell, the founder of the Boy Scouts, once said “Teach Scouts not how to get a living, but how to live’.  Since Scouting began over 100 years ago, the program has been continuously updated, but the fundamentals remain: to develop future leaders by combining educational activities and lifelong values with fun. Troop 889 offers a year-round adventure-based program designed to offer and encourage effective character, citizenship, and fitness training for boys age 11-17.In addition to camping, Scouts are able to earn advancement and merit badge awards by learning and demonstrating skills within a particular area of study.
